Terms of service
Last updated 24 October 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Codestallion (“we”, “us”), the makers of fTree, for using the fTree website at ftree.co.zw and the fTree app. By creating an account or using fTree you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal information.
Your account
- You must be at least 16 to create an account, and give us accurate details.
- Keep your password and devices safe. You’re responsible for what happens in your account, and should tell us straight away if you think someone else has used it.
- One person per account. Don’t share your account; invite relatives instead.
Family trees
- The person who starts a tree is its owner. The owner decides who is invited and whether each member can only look or can also add and edit, and can remove members.
- Editors can change and remove what is in the tree. Members who can only look can suggest changes.
- Members of a tree can see its history of changes, including who made them.
What you add
You keep ownership of the stories, photos and information you add. You give us permission to store them and show them to the members of your family tree, and to make the copies needed to run fTree (such as backups and smaller versions of photos). This permission ends when the content is deleted, apart from backups, which expire on their own.
When you add something, you confirm that you have the right to share it, and that it is fair to the people it is about. In particular, please:
- respect living relatives’ privacy, and remove details if they ask you to;
- only upload photos you took, own or have permission to share;
- not add anything unlawful, hateful, harassing or sexual, or anything that exposes someone to harm.
We may remove content, or suspend an account, that breaks these terms or the law. Where we can, we’ll tell you first and explain why.
The family assistant
The assistant turns what editors type into suggested changes. Its suggestions can be wrong; nothing is added until an editor approves it, and editors are responsible for what they approve. See the privacy policy for how messages are processed.
Plans
fTree is free to start. Some trees may be on a plan with higher limits or extra features. Any paid plan will show its price and terms before you agree to it. If a plan ends, the tree stays readable, but some limits may apply to adding more.
Using fTree fairly
Don’t try to break, overload or get around fTree’s security; don’t access trees or accounts that aren’t yours; and don’t copy fTree’s data in bulk except by exporting your own tree.
Our service
We work hard to keep fTree running and your family’s information safe, but fTree is provided “as is”. We can’t promise it will always be available or free of mistakes, and family history is only as accurate as what people add. Keep your own copies of anything precious — you can export your tree at any time.
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or unforeseeable losses, or for losses caused by content other people add. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the law that can’t be limited.
We may change or stop features. If we ever decide to close fTree, we’ll give at least 60 days’ notice so you can export your tree.
Ending
You can stop using fTree and delete your account at any time in Settings. What you added to a family tree stays part of that tree for the rest of the family unless you remove it first or ask us to. We may close accounts that seriously or repeatedly break these terms.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we’ll tell you on fTree or by email before the change takes effect. If you keep using fTree after that, the new terms apply.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Zimbabwe, and disputes will be dealt with by the courts of Zimbabwe, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim there.
